"Beech Dances I"
by Jean Barnes Brown
~Jean Barnes Downs~
"There is a rhythmic pulse in all of creation that moves and flows through our natural world. The contour line that I see and love in that world reflects this movement and flow finding expression in my monotypes and monoprints. In this body of work I combine my love of contour line drawing with the printmaking process." Jean's other work can be found at the Washington Printmakers Gallery by visiting or at the Arts at Canal Place

"Brass Centipede Sculptural Necklace"
by Mary A. McCunn
~Mary A. McCunn~
"Some words should be spoken on the ebb and flow in nature. Insects as they meander in waves across a fallen tree or how a variety of organic items move and gain a rhythm on the gentle and not-so-gentle waters of our rivers and brooks. Wearable jewelry in sterling silver, brass and copper, as well as sculptures in metal and select driftwood will be featured to include some of these words."

Second Messages at FSU

Frostburg State University’s Visual Arts Department presents the “Second Message” art exhibition from Friday, Feb. 4, to Sunday, Feb. 27. The opening reception will be held on Friday, Feb. 4, at 7 p.m. in the Stephanie Ann Roper Art Gallery in the Fine Arts Building on campus. Refreshments will be served.

The exhibition, which showcases the works of area residents Ken Braitman, Mary McCunn, Kurt Bonello and Kate Keely, will feature different forms of artistic expression including paintings and sculptures.
Ken Braitman’s sculptures give new life or perspective to old discarded objects. Kate Keely’s paintings explore issues related to the human condition translated in a symbolic manner. Mary McCunn’s sculptures and jewelry are produced using mixed metals, creating an abstract metamorphosis on small insect-like elements in nature. Kurt Bonello’s sculptures are influenced by or constructed from found objects or natural formations.

The Stephanie Ann Roper Art Gallery is open to the public 1 to 4 p.m., Monday through Wednesday. Frostburg State University 101 Braddock Road Frostburg, MD 21532-2303
